PRIVATE LESSONS
This is the absolute best way do a lesson. All attention is on you and the lesson is tailored specifically for you. If you’re a beginner, the lesson will be at the right pace for you and feedback will be specific for your needs. If you’re an experienced skier, we will always visit the fundamentals first, and then if you want to focus on a specific topic, we will zone in on it.
SEMI PRIVATE
You just can't beat a Private Lesson, but sometimes it's fun to share the experience with someone close to you! You might lose a little special attention but I’ve become pretty good at helping skiers work on what they need. Everyone in the lesson needs to be doing the same style, skate or classic.
Private lessons are the best for that 1v1 attention, but it can be fun to learn and ski with other folks too. Lots of laughs and we all learn from each other. You won't get my undivided attention, but that can be nice too! This is a plan in the works, so I'm not 100% sure what it will look like. I'll start with beginner lessons and it could morph into more advanced classes or some type of series. A lot depends on interest. For example, I might do classic groups on Saturday, skate on Sunday, or maybe classic and skate back to back on the same day. I do plan to cap the group size so I can feel good about helping everyone.
I'll share info here when I finally come up with a plan, and my Facebook page will be the best resource for on-time info.
Learning downhill skills on cross country ski trails is a challenge. The trails are narrow, the trees are close, and you only get one shot. I teach alpine skiing at Alpine Valley, and have permission to take students on XC skis to the beginner hills, which is the perfect place to figure it all out. We will work on a great balanced posture, speed control with a gliding wedge, a.k.a snowplow, step turns, and hockey stops. BONUS....we can ride the Magic Carpet back up the hill so you can make hundreds of turns without getting all sweated up!! Great instruction and repetition are the keys to success. If you get really confident and the snow is great, we can ride the EZ Rider chairlift for longer runs!! THESE LESSONS ARE ALWAYS OVER AN HOUR!
Roller skiing is a great way to stay "ski fit" off season and it very closely replicates snow skiing. Many experienced skiers are very comfortable on roller skis from the get go, but I must say that for folks that aren't already avid snow skiers, learning on roller skis is a tough path. I always encourage folks that want to get into XC Skiing, to start on the snow, and add roller skiing later. The asphalt road is obviously less fun to fall on than the snowy trails!
I've been teaching students on roller skis for a long time, and have developed a nice lesson plan to make it as safe and fun as possible.
